Anyway, since we seem to be well represented here on PH, I thought I'd start a thread for those of us who spell cheque and labour the right way and who celebrate Thanksgiving in October, as is correct.

Who else is from north of the Medicine Line ?

Was doing some research today, and will be getting my family passports soon. We're gonna go check out north of the border, probably starting in Vancouver, BC to start as it's closest. Considering trying to immigrate up that way. Any suggestions on places to check out?

Kinda depends on what you are looking for. We are a very different society from the USA, and have a bunch of very distinct regions and cultures.

Also, be prepared for a lot of anti-USA sentiment at this time. Sounds like you are flying, which will be easier, since you won't have a license plate to give you away.

I was actually planning on driving, I'm only about 4 hours from the border, depending on Seattle traffic. Really, I'm looking for a lot of things, the primary one is getting away from what the US has become over the past 30 years I've lived here.

Mountains/oceans for sure.

Been in the city far too long, ready to go back to rural areas with privacy, quiet, and at least a half hour drive to do weekly/biweekly grocery runs

No preference on French people, haven't had much exposure

Not particular on color either, so long they don't eat my kids and clean up after they dig through the trash

No idea what a Blue Noser nor a Herring Choker is

Realistically I think the western territories would be ideal, but not so far north that we're in the Yukon because I do like to have somewhat of a growing season outdoors. I also need to be near a bit of a tech hub, or at least where there's decent internet access given my career path.

There's still much research to be done, but it's been on the mind for a few years now and only getting heavier the bigger the shit show becomes here in the US.

If you want bang for your buck, you should have a look at the East Coast. It's a lot cheaper than the West, and the people are some of the most hospitable and generous in the world, even though many don't have a lot themselves.

In case you don't know much about Atlantic Canada, here's one of the first articles that came up when I did a search, to introduce you to Newfoundlanders. This is pretty typical behaviour.

As a born Albertan I've worked with thousands of men and women from the East, up in Ft Mac and on other projects, and will say I far prefer the average Newf or Caper or Acadian over the average 'Berta boy.

Just don't ever mistake nice for weak or you'll be drinking your dinner for a while. Them boys are tough. ;)

Lower mainland BC real estate is equally sickening as the Okanogan. There is another climate 'orchard bubble' around the Great lakes. These regions, and the first 200 km's North of the 49th , comprise roughly 80-85% of Canada's population distribution. In the 80's the density was around 2 persons per squar km.

Change is coming to Alberta. Currently there is no provincial retail sales tax, or health care exspenses. Let that sink in.

Or perhaps not. One glaring difference I see North of the border is political loyalty.
Down south, folks seem to dye themselves one colour.
Not here, in Canada, I feel represented in government. I can support the human being that I feel will best promote my interests.
Any individual can hold sway here. We have a voice.
I dont want my leaders consulting a playbook to see how they feel about something. This is a new world. There is no doctrine that will provide solutions to some of these emerging twists.
I hope my government is making choices from the heart.

This is not a political post. I do not have political opinions, or wish to debate them.
It just kinda leaked out; let this serve as an example of the stuff I usually delete. But, I do feel strongly about it. I simply want to convey how I feel about growing up in this province.
