Psychobilly Seed Spread

Monday October 24th 2022:

Finally got side pictures today. We have to pull some today again and I need to give nutrients to the ones that aren't close as they haven't had any in a while.

It was raining and cold for a while and so giving them some when the soil wasn't getting drained all that fast didn't seem like the best idea and it was cold so I didn't want too lol.

If you’re going to do the thing where you say they’re all phenotypes of Chemdog, it’s confusing. According to the story they’re all bag seeds from what they called Dogbud and Chemweed. So, they’re all phenos of whatever that was. He just renamed it, and himself, Chemdog like idiots with big egos do.
If we are going to be sticklers about how someone refers to something then I’m just gonna come out and say you are both confusing phenotype with genotype in this scenario.

Phenotype is how the plant expresses itself, genotype is the genetic make up. Each of those seeds would have a different combination of alleles. Which would make each of them their own genotype, though all we can observe is the phenotype.

So the different Chemdog types would be Genotypes ? You're right about my confusion and with my love of Chemdog tracking down good info has been hard. I'm not sure I fully believe "Chemdog" that there were 13 seeds in a bag he got in the mail, and that Chem D, Chem 4, Chem's Sister, and Chemdog '91 all came from a single bag. But if that is true, they would NOT be Phenotypes?

Regular Chemdog is hard to find here, and the only reason I got Chem D was two clones the Father in law got like 2 years ago and I grabbed every bean I found from those because it's one of my favorites.

Thanks for any help clearing this up; trying to guess if Leafly or some other site is full of it or not is not easy lol. Shit some of them say Chem D is a Sativa, but with how early it flowers out I don't think it is personally.

Phenotype is the physical expression of the genotype. So even the seeds you have from the Chem D are different genotypes then the clone. So technically they are all different phenotypes, but that is not really the correct way to label them. Because the phenotypic expression is dependent on its genotype, environmental factors, and so forth.

The whole sativa/indica thing is also something that is not well understood in the cannabis community. What it boils down to is that all the cannabis we smoke is indica. The only plants that are taxonomically classified as sativa are hemp varieties. The effects and morphology of the plant has nothing to do with it.

See Genotype / Phenotype when I first started reading about this really tripped me up. I'd read something and be like "wait but the environment...." lol.

But isn't it all Canbabis Sativa from that Russian dude who went to Afghanistan like a hundred years ago? Cannabis Sativa Sativa, Cannabis Sativa Indica, and Cannabis Sativa Afganicus? I may be mixing some of that up of course, and the part I read could have easily been wrong as well.

For myself, I generally use flowering time and bud structure to describe Indica leaning or Sativa, as my brain sorts them into "Tropical Climate with longer flower period and whispy airy buds for high humidity" VS "Cool climate in a Desert where it gets cold and dense bud structure because of lower humidity" as that usually made sense to me.

Yes, you are correct that it is all classified as Cannabis Sativa, but with the subspecies Sativa, Indica, and Ruderalis. Each of those can be broken down further by their location of origin as well such as Afghanica, Chinensis, and so on.

The only plants that are in the subspecies of sativa are hemp varieties. That is why you see people starting to use the terms NLD/BLD and NLH/BLH as better ways to describe these things. I have a write up I did on this that I can post here somewhere as well if anyone is interested.

What it comes down to is the adaptation of the population based on where it is growing. Plant morphology is dictated by the environment it is in, how much light it is exposed to, etc.

Si. What he said. I've seen it in all the strains I've run. Even in f3+ I'll see 1 or 2 in 10 or 20 plants which is a small sample size but it's always been the norm. F1's and especially f2's you're gonna get quite a few different phenos the more seed you grow, normally. There always seems to be exceptions but this is the norm and no matter how far you go from the original parent strains one or more will show up/lean that way in subsequent grows. Fun stuff and how many awesome strains are created and nurtured. You really need to grow some males in a closet and pollinate a branch or 10?

Modern cannabis doesn’t really align with these rules being multi poly hybrids, it really muddies how to classify it in that sense.

I definitely have plans to do some pollinations and see what I can do. Got plenty of space for it, so over the next couple of years my main focus is going to be making my own seeds and hunting through them.

Seems like it would make it hard to load up Bourbon that way lol.

Oh! We finished the Skywalker Seedling and the Gelato #33 Seedling yesterday.

Also took most of a Chem D clone too.

The Skywalker Seedling bag on the left, the Blue Cheese X Blueberry Muffin bag in the middle, and the Fiona's Chem Cake on the right.

Most of Fiona's Chem Cake is still outside though. Still Some Blue Cheese X Blueberry Muffin out there too. Looks like around a half pound of each and still have some up on the racks.

Also; Wife got me a new "Hat"

Your lack of Local Southern Knowledge is showing, Billy.
You stop in Tennessee and pick up your buds Jack and George
and then white knuckle it right on through Kentucky.

Beautiful harvest photos, BTDubs - to be serious for a moment.

Well my Southern knowledge is mostly Bourbon, Tennessee Whiskey, and Cajun Food unless you count me knowing about Gator Gar and Blue Cats lol.

And thank you both :)

What's BTDubs?
