So I'm reading an article about the differences from Genotypes and Phenotypes in a given strain of Cannabis.

So I'm reading through that, and from what I'm reading, I'm starting to think I can experiment with some ideas that are forming as I read that:

Assuming that article is accurate and I'm not "just really high" then theoretically I can take a strain that has a decent amount of Indica genetics in it, and grow a batch of that strain, and have one subjected to "normal" temps, and do another in a cold environment, which from what I'm reading at least, could, in theory, bring out mainly Indica expressions in that strain.

Has anyone here toyed with this at all? I know some stains seem to not only survive but actually thrive in some pretty cool weather, and this has my brain going on possibilities from any given strain.

I'm thinking I want to try doing a "chilly run" to see what happens if I can keep the temps right.
 
The cold breaks down the chlorophyll allowing the anthocyanins to become dominant which gives weed a purple hue but I don't think the temperature would allow the plant to express indica or sativa properties as those are a genetic expression controlled by a plants DNA and not external forces. You can and I have worked a hybrid for indica properties over sativa ones.

Thanks bro? I started noticing last season that the plants I left outside in really cold temps were incredibly sticky and the ones with the colored genetics turned pretty colors and then after reading that article a bit I started wondering if I managed to get the climate to be more like you'd expect in parts of Afghanistan where it's pretty cold if it would "coax out" some of the more Indica parts of the plants.

I'm still learning and I like to experiment and explore. I guess I went from hacking / experimenting on computers to messing with ideas in plants and Phenotypes lol.

I've read before that Blue Cheese likes 68 degrees and when I started my seeds this passed season I set the AC to 68 degrees. Skywalker and Blue Cheese all loved it as did the Chem D, so it had my brain thinking about this.

That article was a good read but it was making it sound like you can get plants to express genetic traits by external forces and I've never seen it or even read that before. Granted the purple usually only expresses itself in cold but that's more of a chemical process and even without the cold some strains will display the color or at least a hue. I've been fascinated by genetics since I was in jr high science class learning about Mendal and his work with peas. Funny how some things stick and others you don't remember even hearing.

Honestly my "start" in my interest in plants started in a not so legal way, quite a while ago with Papaver Somniferum (Opium) plants that I grew back like 20 years ago. I had no clue what I was doing but man the flowers were beautiful!

My interest in genetics comes mainly from Cannabis and a wee bit from spicy peppers/ chilies but I'm starting to get a better grasp of the way it works in Cannabis.

I've grown lots of hot peppers (Ghost Peppers / Bhut Jolokia, Trinidad Scorpions, Carolina Reaper Peppers, Thai, a few others, and I discovered not long ago that Carolina Reaper Peppers are actually Ghost Pepper X Habanero lol.

I think one thing that keeps messing me up is that Genotypes and Phenotypes ate a bit of a pain in the ass to get the first time. I've read a lot about them and then when I think I've got it, I realize I've got the wrong end of the stick hahahaha.

I do plan on experimenting again next season, and I enjoy toying with pruning techniques and temperature of seedlings; had very interesting results this passed year:

When I started my Seedlings I kept the room at 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and then they were moved outside eventually.

Hawaiian Sunshine had some Purple hues from the LEDs, but that went away once they were in actual Sunlight. I also noticed a few things:

1. Blue Cheese and Skywalker were stretching into the light and wanted more of it, so I ended up burying the stem in the dirt to "fix" it lol.

2. Motor Breath did NOT like the light! Like to the extent that I lost I think two seedlings that fried to a crisp even though Skywalker and Blue Cheese were directly under the light stretching into it, and Motorbreath was way off to the side, it STILL grew sideways away from the light...

Honestly the reason I had some Motorbreath seedlings even survive was a really shitty cheap light that we had right before we got a "proper" light. The proper light killed most of the Motorbreath... you would think genetics of SVF OG Kush X Chemdog would be good with some light, but nope, fried some anyway lol.

Once they were all outside it was fine though, but having Seedlings to take clones from, I didn't want to wait until the weather was warmer so they were started inside

Okay, so its saying things like hair and eye color would be genotypes, and stuff like personality and attitude would be phenotypes.

But what about, say, height? If you have two tall parents, you're likely to be tall too. but thats not always the case. Is that as easily answered as inhereted/not inherited? or am I overthinking it and its just not inherited?

Wouldn't that depend on the color of the Resin when it was pulled? If you allow the resin to turn Amber or Purple the THC breaks down into CBN, which from what I've read, when added to THC gives a sleepy effect.

As for humans and growth I'm not as good at that, but if you're taking about fish, they can keep on growing their entire life; the current world record Wels Catfish for example only seems big because 14th and 15th century German people didn't have cameras; they carried 16 foot fish existed and were sometimes found with humans in their stomachs. Goonch are also on that rare list of fish that can get huge and don't actually have a "maximum size".
