Question Male/Female ratios

It usually seems to boil down to "Murphy's Law" for me. When I want females because its a stash refill run -it turns out to be a sausage party, killing my stash level. When I want some boys to hunt through for a pollen donor, thats when all the ladies show up lol
Joking aside, I do think @Capt. C makes a damn good point on the ability to determine sex through Phylos testing in the plants first week or so of life.

I too have always used the 50/50 rule when popping regular seeds. From my experience, more times than not I have usually ended up with more females than 50%. However the hand full of times when I popped less, (2-4 seeds of a specific cultivar), and ended up with all males, or more than 50%, I just chalked it up to bad luck of the draw. Thankfully, that's rarely happened. I typically end up with more females than I have space for.
Call it coincidence or bro science. Based on my experience and seeing others post about your beans, almost all of us have had a much higher female to male ratio. I mean, high 80% across well over a hundred beans, in less than "ideal" conditions? That's saying something. Not sure what but it's definitely something.

Honestly, Ive been wondering how selective breeding, primarily for the best females, has affected this ratio ... or even how its possible that through sheer dumb luck a strain can be bred towards a certain sex just because the mother plant carried some kind of genetic anomaly that made her offspring more likely to be one sex or another.

This thought was brought to you by @HydroRed and 3thirteen seeds and my 100% female rate on Sin City Juice so far ... and the letter WwqR9lzj.gif

I would say on average I’m probably hitting around 60-70% female to male ratio. Solo had some terrible luck with the one or two seeds he started. He kept getting males when dunking only one or two seeds. I also remember when I ran Hyper Alien, X-Files, and Cosmosis, I ended up with all males. I remember only popping two seeds each of Cosmosis and XFiles at the time because I was running so many others and was trying to squeeze them in. I think that’s the extent of my male domination. Whenever I’ve ran 6 or more seeds of the same cultivar, I’ve always ended up with more females. Hyper Alien being the exception to my experiences on this subject matter.

Yea, I felt bad for Solo, felt like I was stealing all the fems lol. The fem to male ratio was insanely high, at least in my experience. This also goes for @HydroRed gear, I popped 2 SCJ, and got 2 fems. Also with @Schwaggy P to an extent, I popped 4 of Schwaggy's Afghan Skunk and 4 Appalachian Super Skunk, and got one male (a nice one at that). Not a scientific sample by any means but just backing up @Gentlemancorpse on his statement/observation. If I ever get to running large numbers of regs again, I hope that I wasn't just spoiled. It certainly did help out A LOT cuz I was growing 100% personal and free donation to those in need. If I were breeding then I would've liked to have found a few stud males. One day :)

I believe it was either @TerpyTyrone or @Turpman that might not agree about the ratios on those SCJ. Took 2 different runs to get a girl IIRC? I think @spyralout and @Gentlemancorpse got em all in their packs ;)
Nope poped 3 got all fem. they were all very close in structure and production. Picked the most vigorous and cloned. Will be interesting to see what she does in the greenhouse, she’s 9’-the 2’ pot.

I dropped a whole pack. It was right around 50% great smoke. Dense nugs. Took an ass whoopin too and kept on hummin along. Id run it again. Tastey orange nugs for quarantine 2020

Do you have a greater percentage of red light while getting your seedlings started...Informally, I've had my female count skew in favour of more females when using just my (blue spectrum) grow switch when starting my seedling..(flowering switch off)
I've read somewhere in the past (although I cant find it now) that it does make a difference.
This?
