The Dark Alley Club - Sad, seedy loners welcome.

if it wasn’t for calories I would have eggs, 1 piece of toast (toasted) + bacon or sausages everyday . But I try to limit myself to 1-2 times max . i Would say that’s in my top 10 favorite food meals , and not pricey ethier even if bought from grocery store vs so many “favorites” cost factor. Cheap and amazing <3

Yeah I've started to omit the meat a lot, but I eat eggs and toast 3 or 4 times a week. Usually with some fruit or cheese. They really are one of the best bang for your buck foods too, when I was a far poorer individual I practically lived off of eggs, rice and beans (doused in Lizano salsa and cholula, both of which I have a serious addiction too)

The chicken poop , after you let it not be “hot” is a amazing fertilizer for organics and a great npk . They are like worms , easy to raise , eat so many things and great outcome of them eating your stuff ( eggs, meat and poop) . Thing about me is chickens are very smart and can be at same level as any pet . I would have too hard of a time killing my friends for food and that was my intention . but hey that’s views and wish I knew someone who owned a chicken farm cause i would def ask for their poo for fair trade .

I am considering getting chickens. How bad is it?

That's a tough question to answer, because a lot depends on you. I love it so I don't mind the work. On a daily basis it's not bad at all. Fresh water daily, food every couple days. I collect the eggs whenever I'm walking by. Stir up the shavings on the ground a couple times a week. If you let them free range they'll keep your yard free of ticks too!

But it can be a big hassle sometimes. Have to clean the coop out periodically, which if you have 3 to 6 birds and a small coop it's no big deal, but if you have 14 birds like me there's a lot of shit to shovel (makes great compost though!)

Chickens are also fragile. They get sick and you have to quarantine them and that takes up space. Sometimes they just die so you have to deal with that. And it often feels like every other animal on the planet wants to eat them... I have weekly encounters with coyotes, fishers, hawks and weasels... I have friends who have trouble with rats. Raccoons are the worst cause they can undo simple latches.

But for me, there's something viscerally satisfying about raising a flock. I enjoy just smoking and watching them do their thing... and obviously the eggs are delicious...and theoretically better for you. I've read free range eggs are lower in calories, bad chloresteral (sp?) and higher in omega 3s.

Part of me wants to do it because I like building things and the coop/enclosure would be a challenge. The other part sees the daily obligations and decides to procrastinate.

Haha that's definitely fair, the daily obligations get old sometimes. Especially right now when it's cold, windy and dark every morning when I go out there

Building the coop was super fun though

Chickens are cool, but have you guys ever had a goose? ? Mine could be a pain in the ass some days but man are they funny animals & watchdogs like no other.

I actually strongly considered getting a goose to help protect the flock but when my friend had one it kept attacking my son every time it saw him (he was a toddler at the time). I think ducks are next.

That goose was delicious though.
