Who loves fishing ?

I can't stop winter, so might as well get to the good parts quickly. : )

I'd hate to winter somewhere that it was too cold and shitty for open water fishing but not cold enough for proper winter recreation.

Albertans moving to the BC coast to get away from winter is so common it's a cliche. A big pile of them end up back here because the grey cloudy wet shit gets really old.
I remember talking to one guy who'd moved back. He said something like "I was there 18 months and saw the sun twice." :ROFLMAO:
Sad Ice Cream GIF

Yeah we have Snow on the ground but other than some slippery conditions there's not much for ice around here yet. The moving somewhere else thing is like people here or in Canada going to Florida for Winter, which, I would love to catch a Tarpon, but I'm more likely to catch a stop sign to the back of the head from a Hurricane so I'm not going LOL.

Spent an absolutely beautiful afternoon floating around and matching wits with pike and walleye.

I'd never been to this lake in the summer, only a couple winter attempts, so I was just hoping not to get skunked.
It took a couple hours to figure out what they wanted, but once I did it was pretty steady. I anchored between 14 and 17 fow and was able to bring fish in easily, but provoking a strike took some work.

I'd have to double check my clicker, but I think the final tally was 10 pike and two walleye landed. The 'eyes were absolute pigs. I measured the one at 59 cm, with just a massive broad back and big belly.
There were fish on the graph almost constantly, so I was always entertained.

Packed up at the perfect time, in the last light, and drove home in the dark. Took this just before loading up.

Lost a couple and took my skunk. It was a bit chillier than forecast, but still a fun afternoon. :)

Two pike and a bunch of missed chances today. They were fussy and when they did hit it was mostly lightly. Went from about 6 to 20 FOW and found the most action in the deeper stuff. Ice was 6 or 7 inches thick. It is a little unnerving to see the water in the holes moving as I walked but no actual danger. I drilled my way out, checking the thickness as I went.

November 21 was my first time on the ice last year and this year it was my 6th time out. :dancingsmiley"

If the Pike aren't feeding like usual and going deeper they might either be getting used to the ice and simply not feeding as much, or something "turned them off" so to speak. Pike and Musky generally like really cold water and sometimes in warm water you'll see them look for the coolest spots (I've seen Lake Trout do this before where there was a single pocket of 43 degree water and that was where they'd hit) I think the Thermocline may have a part in this but I'm NOT an expert on that by any means or how it is affected when it's ice.

Well shit. Not worth it this morning. Maybe later.
