I’m with you @Dino Party Im very skeptical when anyone says they have RKS at this point in time. The 1980’s are long gone along with a lot of the genetics of that time. I do believe there is someone who has seeds they just do not share.

I've personally had many dead ends, then I'll happen across a occasional bag weed that has the back flavor/smell that keeps my interest sparked.
It ain't necessarily the smell I'm after, it's that head to toe , hours long stone that came with it. The terps were the magic not so much as the thc.

See now if you guys had just moved to Michigan as I've mentioned.... LOL, I could be showing you jars right now that..... I can't say "pure Skunk" smell, because I can easily smell Cat piss in it too, but it's legit the closest thing I've come across to that potent pungent make your knees wobble smell.
I kind of feel like Skunky is looking in the right areas with Afghani and Skunk crosses, and Hopefully he finds the one I'm talking about as it really is the closest I've come to smelling that. which I must say; The two seedlings growing from that bag of seeds, currently have a smell about the same as that one did, so the chances are at least decent !
Burying a Skunk in the dirt..... Is that for real ? Dino has it right on just adding the sulfur to the soil or.... whatever you're growing in....Dead Skunk corpses, soil, water.... Hopes and dreams, whatever the hell made someone stick an animal in there hahaha.
Don't get me wrong; There's plenty of woodland critters buried in the garden out back, but there's no plants on those areas. Not because I don't realize protein and blood break down well in plants, but because I can't measure how much of any given nutrient is in that and I feed nutrients to my plants.
I've been honest about how I've never smoked the real deal before, and so I know nothing about the "stone" on it, but that smell on the other hand is what I'm actually after.... Caught myself sniffing the air as the Wife and I drove into town the other day and someone hit a Skunk and I caught myself going "Ahhhh mmmmmm!" with the window down possibly terrifying others by enjoying that smell LOL. Wife saw it but, she also smelled the tent before everything was outside haha.
I can't say anything about stone or taste, but I'm sure excited to one day smell weed that reminds me of the real thing. I used to think something was wrong with me when I was younger because the smell of a Skunk didn't bother me, it intrigued me....Same thing at the gas station; I wasn't huffing gas, but I sure like the smell of gas.... Like I said I thought something was wrong with me, but turns out I was a stoner in training.

The entire thing is, smell is all subjective. We can both smell the same bag, identify different notes, and both be correct. So, not only are we now chasing smells over 30 years ago, we now have to narrow it down to something that EVERYBODY can agree is RKS, otherwise it's just more of the same.
Things can smell skunky all day and that's cool. But RKS is a very specific claim, that has yet to be delivered.

I understand that; I've also noticed a few times that when I go to "sniff" something, that at times, if someone else picks up on what I've smelled, it seems to almost "color their judgement" so to speak, in terms of what they smell.
It's not unlike drawing a "9" on a paper, and having two people sit across from one another, and ask them what they see; One is going to say "6" and the other is going to say "9" and they're both correct based on how they look at it.
For the "Skunky" smell.... I kind of feel like anyone from a place that has a Skunk population would probably pick up on the actual "odor", and I can still remember when I was younger smelling what I thought was a Skunk, and a couple people in my family one time were like "Actually that's not a Skunk...." LOL. Now, from what I remember of this particular smell, it didn't smell like a "dead skunk" but it was almost the same except for a slight....Floral maybe? The Weed I remember smelling (And yes this is years and years ago, back in maybe the late 80s early 90s) it did smell like a Skunk had sprayed, but with a slight hint of something else.
It wasn't exact, and I too think "stink is in the nose of the sniffer" but I do have a decent scent memory about that time, and I've for sure smelled things that were "close but no cigar" so to speak.
I agree on the RKS.... Specially if the dude claiming to have it doesn't know what a Skunk actually smells like.
Let's face it the "original RKS is gone !!!! Dam-it BUT one can still try to get "RKS taste" consider just think of how many times it was worked (RKS genetics) So let me give you a strain that comes close to it for me "MR. Saying that smell is subjective as a general statement is agreeable but in this case, I don’t think that what constitutes RKS is subjective. As stated, it is implied that since smell can’t be standardized it can’t be used as an identifying trait since we aren't certain we’re all experiencing the exact same thing. We’ve all smelled dead animals. It is a distinct smell. You may focus on certain notes or nuances in the profile relative to someone else but you’re not going to confuse the smell of dead animals with cinnamon rolls. That two people use related but different descriptive words to convey a smell is more indicative of the difficulty in conveying ineffable concepts (try to explain the color orange). You could say rotten eggs and burnt hair both “stink” but they have distinct bouquets of stink that are identifiable across multiple people.
Everybody seems to agree on the smell that makes Roadkill Skunk; it’s in the name. A dead skunk that has been run over. So there are 2 big components you need: 1) Dead animal (Sulfur Dioxide and Methane) and 2) Skunk spray (Thiols-more sulfur). So this bouquet has clearly identifiable components that must be present to qualify as a roadkill skunk. If this were not the case, there'd be tons of people running around convinced they all have RKS instead of the actual case of no one having it. How do we all know we don't have RKS if it wasn't identifiable by smell?

Skunk spray is made up of sulfur based chemicals called thiols. Recently, it has been discovered that cannabis also has thiols with one in particular called prenylthiol. This has been ID’d as the chemical that is associated with the skunk odor of bud. The interesting part is that prenylthiol is not a terpene but a different class of chemical altogether. This class of chemicals being shared with the skunk spray means that a skunk smell is also a chemically measurable trait.

I saw a post on IG today, cant remember whom, but they had cut tiers ranging from 200 to 10k, and most of it was at least 1k a cut. For different phenos of all kinds of shit i'd never heard of. Man, not all that long ago you could pay 10k for that cut and more than pay it off with a single grow. Before everybody and thier mother had "elite cuts". Grow some lbs of some of that 450/Oz east coast dank and that 10k wasn't anything.
Still, I get it, pretty hard to justify parting with that much cash for a single plant.

I mean, with the right start up money I could just as easily be Batman; He doesn't have any powers outside of a huge amount of money and some neat toys that I could essentially buy myself and....Yeah nah, for 10 Gs or more it has to be something incredibly special.
